A stray dog was found with its eyes gouged out in Andheri’s Lokhandwala Complex on Sunday,16th November 2008.

With the help of NGO Karuna Voluteers, Animal lover Durga Rai, who rescued the animal, said, “The dog must have been in the middle of mating when someone shoved a sharp bamboo-like stick into his eyes. He was in a state of utter shock when I found him blinded, with one blood-tainted eyeball hanging out, in the Jogeshwari market, where he has grown up.”

The dog is being treated by the NGO Karuna now. “I first saw the wounded dog around three weeks back, and immediately called up Karuna, which works for the cause of animals. But the shocked dog must have wandered around the area, because we could not find him thereafter for a long time. We finally found him on Sunday at the Jogeshwari-Lokhandwala crossing. Karuna volunteers are now administering medicine and treating the dog,” said Rai.

The Dog has now been taken to the Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA), which has the facilities to treat such a serious wound.

The injured dog rescued by Durga Rai with the help of Karuna, the other dogs found grieviously injured, with Dr. Kaginkar of BSPCA and animal lover Durga Rai.

Today morning Karuna have informed through few animal lovers ( Rutu Purohit, Jimita Shah, Parvati Nayar ) that one Green turtle belongs to deep sea, lying on the beach with few bad injuries on it.

Karuna’s volunteers Navin Solanki have taken immediate action and reach on the site with ambulance, bring 30” turtle to Karuna’s Andheri office as turtle’s condition was very bad.

Our expert Vet have treat him, close his all the wounds properly and bring him new life.

One animal lover Mr. Pankaj Koli have bare all the expenses of this green turtle and set the example, Karuna and all the animal lover’s are very much thank full for this.

At last Karuna have brought the turtle in the middle of the sea through boat and set him free, to explore few new depth of the sea.

“Few months back BMC have issued a public notice that people are advice not to feed birds and animals in public places, which is not designated by M.C.G.M. as a place for feeding birds. If found doing so, people will be liable to penal provision of Rs. 500/-"

Now on November 23 Karuna received a call from an animal lover cum alert citizen that the BMC people were hitting innocent pigeons rudely and some birds had got injured. Mr. Arvind Shah, Jeetu Lodhariya and Pradeep R. Pandey  volunteer have reached there immediately, requested the BMC people not to hurt the pigeons but they didn’t listen and started misbehaving with them. After that they registered a complain against Jeetu and Pradeep that they both were threatening and obstructing the work of government employees. The police thus arrested them.

Karuna for animals asking to BMC that feeding the birds and stray animals is crime now?? If BMC cannot manage the cleanliness then it’s their problem. To make such a rule is not the solution.. and how about the people who use to do littering on rode side…?? Is there any rules to stop them ?

Burn monkey from hi-tension wire.

A call received at the Virar breach of Karuna, that a monkey is badly burn from hi-tension wire. Since 4 days, the monkey was at the Chendrasar village, owner of the Jyoti Auto parts Shop, Mrs. Munna was taking care of him. But due to serious injury, monkey was brought to Andheri head office. Dr. vijay (surgeon) and there other 3 veterinary doctors, examine him, find that monkey was in mental shock, due to that mind, heart and lungs was badly injured. Hands-legs were not working. Body’s 15 to 20% and the skin of hand-leg palm completely burn and have removed. Treatment is going on.

Our Rescue team have reached there, find him disable to survive without immediate operation of his neck, which has cut up to trachea I. immediately transferred to Karuna office through Karuna’s ambulance. Conduct the operation of fixing the neck and ventilator tube inside the trachea. After five hours of tedious work our doctors team have saved the dog from the life threaten condition.

Vigilance and Animal Welfare Officer of ‘Karuna’, Mr. Jeetubhai Mukutlal Loderia launched a complaint against Nivrut Bhagasi Pote Aged 60, conducting business of selling Love Birds at Stn. Rd., B.M.C. Stall No.15, Defence Colony, Behind Shiv Temple, Janta Nivas Bhandup, Mumbai – 400 087. 20 birds were kept under congested condition in an iron cage Mr. Pole was bought to the police stn. At 20.30. He was arrested under L.C. No. 400/2006, section 11[A] [E], Wild life protection under other sub-sections.

The police handed over [20 Love birds] to our organization as there was no other alternative to look after the same. The birds are being treated by veterinary experts and they shall be rehabilitated to their natural habitats after complete treatment.
